Greek Golden Visa: Residence in Greece, Mobility in Europe

The Greek Golden Visa offers third-country nationals a valuable opportunity to obtain legal residence in Greece through an eligible investment, while enjoying access to one of Europe’s most attractive destinations for lifestyle, business and international mobility.

However, it is important to understand exactly what the Golden Visa provides — and what it does not.

A Greek Golden Visa is a national residence permit issued by Greece. It gives the holder the right to reside legally in Greece for as long as the permit remains valid and the relevant investment conditions continue to be met. It does not, however, automatically grant the right to live permanently or work in any European country.

Holders of a Greek residence permit may generally travel within the Schengen Area for short stays, subject to the applicable Schengen rules. This usually means travel for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Longer residence in another European country would normally require a separate residence permit issued by that country.

Another key point concerns employment. The Greek Golden Visa is primarily a residence-by-investment permit. In the case of investor residence permits, it does not automatically provide a right of access to employment. Therefore, individuals who wish to work in Greece or in another European country should seek specific legal advice regarding the appropriate immigration or work permit route.

One of the main advantages of the Greek Golden Visa is flexibility. The permit is typically issued for five years and may be renewed, provided that the investment continues to meet the legal requirements. Importantly, under the Greek immigration framework, periods of absence from Greece do not in themselves prevent renewal of the investor residence permit.

At our law firm, we assist clients with a clear, practical and legally secure approach to the Golden Visa process. From eligibility assessment and investment structuring to document preparation, application filing and renewal, we guide investors and their families through every stage of the procedure.

The Golden Visa is not European citizenship, nor is it a universal work permit for the European Union. It is, however, a powerful residence and mobility tool when used correctly — and with the right legal guidance.
